APD's contain 3 copies of the data stream taken from the floppy as SD/DD/HD, where JFD are pure data from the OS side, so a lot smaller when unzipped.Īs mentioned above ADFFS will figure out which type a file is, so they're all just "Floppy" to avoid registering unnecessary filetypes with ROOL.

APD's take a age to load is it has to pass them through a 1772 emulator while reading - you'll see a % hourglass while they load. In general an 800K file will be ADF, random sized ones will be either JFD or APD. Failing that, ADFFS will load the latest when it's loaded as VProtect can corrupt the stack.

ADFFS also contains an update VProtect that fixes several bugs it has, just do a Find in !Boot and replace the VProtect that's there with the copy in the !ADFFS folder. If you follow the link in my signature, you can grab the latest ADFFS and any games you might want. If I remember correctly ADFimager expects a header at the front of an ADF image. The JASPP website contains many game images which have been released from copyright, which you can download. It deals with three types of image, which have different DOS filetypes but are all defined as "Floppy" on the Arc:įor your purposes it doesn't matter - if you just type everything as "Floppy", !ADFFS should be able to open it. So !ADFFS was written (by sirbod on this forum) to make images of protected discs. These games came on protected discs, which !ADFImager can't cope with. More recently, post-emulation, there is a need to preserve classic games (and run them on modern hardware such as the Raspberry Pi which lacks floppy drives). !ADFImager dates from this time, and it just makes an image of a floppy. Back in the day hardly anyone used disc images. What I really don't quite understand is why the !ADFImager tool complains about every single ADF file I found, I do know that they work because !ADFFS works fine with them. I used the change filetype for files which I knew were ADF images and just typed "Floppy" and the got recognised by !ADFFS. VProtect 3.30, RiscOS 3.1 is running on the machine Is there a forum post or link link collection maybe? I starting searching, but had mixed results. Can you point me to a beginners guide or FAq for the Archimedes like a good starting point.

Can I transfer via serial RS232 ? On the Apple II there is ADTPro for starting up even from bare metal.

How to get SparkFS back to the A3010? Is there a self extraction version which I can put on a 1440k disk ? At the Moment I have a 3.5" disk drive which uses USB. I read the Linux can handle ADFS but I think this does not help in this case. I have MacOS, Windows and Ubuntu at my disposal. I have not found a tool which enables me to write native ADF 3.5" disks.

Now the Problem is how to get !SparkFS over to the A0301 and extract it ? If I extract the zip on the "non-A3010 machine" I end up with files which the A3010 can not read because of the filenames and extensions as well as invalid filetypes I assume….

I download the new version of the SparkFS and wrote it to a 1.44 DOS disk, I was able to extract the ZIP with the existing SparkFS, but then I did this and that and in the end I screwed it up, and no longer have any working version of SprakFS on the Machine. NOW COMES this part were I am doomed - or got myself in such a situation: I also had the !SparkFS on there, as I understand it allows extraction of various compress formats and provides them also as a virtual files system ?! I figured out that the !ADFFS seems to "mount" ADF Images as a "virtual" disk, so I tried some images, some work, some other give various errors. Tools included were the !ADFFS 2.09, !ADimager v1.00, !IDETool, !TypeFind and many ADF images (at least I suppose they are ADF Images since they are 800k in size). The A3010 came preinstalled with a loaded HDD. The A3010 has am SimTec IDE and 4MB SimTec RAM expansio. The ARM and Archimedes world is quite fascinating. So far I am been active in the Apple II and 68k space (incl. Hence I would really appreciate your help and guidance. I am a freshly baked proud owner of an A3010, which also makes me an Archimedes Noob.
